World Cinema

I’m a big fan of World Cinema (as stupid a title as it is), with most of my favourite films in my collection being dominated by the French.
From a young age, I was always against foreign films, using the very British mind set of “if I wanted to read, I’d pick up a book” (I never read much as a kid either).

It was only after I became a big fan of Ron Perlman (Hellboy – I still read comics…) and was told that one of his best roles was as ‘One’ in Jeunet/Caro’s City of Lost Children that I made the leap.
Immediately after, I was hooked and started fishing around for more. Upon realising that one of the greats of modern cinema – Amelie – was made by the same set of minds, I quickly rushed out to buy it. It’s safe to say that Audrey Tautou became the new dream woman, leaving Johansson and Aniston in the shadows.

After this, the titles kept growing, with some of my favourites below:

Amelie
City of Lost Children
Lives of Others
Mesrine (both parts)
Taxi (luc besson)
City of God
